Orthopedics
At CORE Medical & Surgery Center, we have advanced technology for the prevention, diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment of injuries, alterations, diseases of the musculoskeletal system such as bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints of arms, legs and spine. Our goal is to relieve pain and help patients recover an adequate biomechanical function of the musculoskeletal system.
CORE Medical orthopedic surgeons are among the best in Mexico. They combine superior surgical expertise with innovative clinical and basic research. As a result, they provide care based on the latest research findings, ensuring you receive the most advanced treatments available. We treat patients of all ages, from newborns to older adults. Our teams include experts in the treatment of every type of orthopedic injury, disease, and disorder.
Orthopedic Traumatology
Orthopedic Traumatology refers to the orthopedic care of patients with difficult or complex fractures, non-unions (the failure of a fractured bone to heal normally) and mal-unions (incomplete healing or healing in a bad position). Orthopedic trauma is a severe injury to part of the musculoskeletal system such as a bone, joint or ligament. Leading causes of orthopedic trauma include vehicular and industrial accidents, slips, falls or sports injuries.
Our Approach
People of all ages can be affected by a traumatic injury. These injuries can be complex to treat and may involve multiple parts of the body. Our surgeons, who are specially trained in orthopedic trauma, can quickly and accurately establish a diagnosis and initiate treatment to maximize function.
In traumatic situations, decisions are made quickly. Surgeons rely on their knowledge, training, and experience to choose the appropriate course of treatment. When your bones do not heal as expected, you can be assured our surgeons have experience in handling your potentially complex and sometimes life-threatening situation.
Our Advanced Facility
When you choose CORE Medical & Surgery Center, you gain access to a state-of-the-art facility including surgical suites, well-equipped patient rooms, a gym, pharmacy and even an on-site restaurant.
Cutting-Edge Technology
We are the only medical center in Baja California that works with the ROSA Robot (robotic surgical assistant.) This is a new system, which has a robotic arm and sophisticated software allowing a continuous analysis of the data and guidance for the surgeon during the placement of joint prostheses.
This technology makes it possible to adapt the prostheses to the patient’s needs. It also helps doctor and patient plan the intervention with 3D images that can be shared on mobile phones and tablets.
The inclusion of this technology represents another step towards the adoption of robotic surgery in trauma and by incorporating this new system, great advances are being made in patient care. It offers the following advantages:
- Optimizes surgery times
- Requires only a small incision
- Decreases tissue damage
- Preserves bone and surrounding tissue
- Decreases bleeding during surgery
- Improves accuracy, precision and consistency of the surgery
- Delivers higher patient satisfaction, better clinical results, and higher efficiency
- Facilitates surgical planning adapted to the anatomy of each patient.
- Limits pain and helps to achieve a faster recovery
Medical Treatment
Medical treatment is the use of non-surgical methods for pain relief, and healing of traumatic injuries. Medical treatment is carried out with the use of medications taken, smeared, or injected, in addition to immobilization with the use of plaster, fiberglass or orthopedic devices. One of the options for the management of joint pain is the beginning of pharmacological treatment, with medications taken, the use of gel or creams on the skin, or infiltration of medications into a joint, with the aim of removing pain and improving limb functionality.
Minimally Invasive Surgical Treatments
Our orthopedic surgeons perform various minimally invasive procedures with the aim of a faster recovery for patients. Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgery where sports, acute or chronic joint injuries are diagnosed and treated. The orthopedic surgeon specializes in performing arthroscopic surgery with the use of state-of-the-art technology in areas including the knee, shoulder, hip, elbow, wrist and ankle.
Joint Replacement
Joint replacement surgery is intended for patients with advanced joint injuries due to wear and tear or trauma, who suffer from chronic pain, and limitation in activities of daily living. Joint replacement allows patients to regain movement, relieve pain, and improve quality of life. The prostheses are designed to start a quick rehabilitation safely, for a return to normal activities.
Physical Therapy and Early Rehabilitation
Part of orthopedic treatment consists of an early physical rehabilitation, carried out in conjunction with therapists, physical therapists and occupational rehabilitators. Physical therapy is focused on injury prevention, pain management, and functional recovery. It is essential for a recovery of normal activity and sports. For sports injuries, and patients who receive surgical treatment, it is essential that they undergo physical therapy sessions so that they can return to physical activities.
What We Treat
The orthopedic doctor can treat patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly. The main pathologies treated by orthopedics and traumatology are:
- Fractures, defined as loss of continuity of a bone. The treatment can be carried out with immobilization with a cast or orthopedic devices.
- Injuries to the musculoskeletal system such as bruises, joint sprains, tears or muscle contractures.
- Rupture of tendons or ligaments with early surgical repair.
- Dislocations, or the loss of the anatomical relationship of the articular surfaces of 2 bones.
- Osteoarthrosis or arthrosis, defined as the wear of a joint, characterized by the loss of cartilage, alterations of the subchondral bone of any joint. Pain, inflammation and limitation to the mobilization of the joint are common symptoms. Depending on various factors such as age, intensity of pain, and severity of wear, treatment with medications, joint infiltrations, arthroscopic surgery or even joint replacement can be performed.
- Orthopedic disorders such as flat feet, congenital adduct clubfoot, developmental dysplasia of the hip, hallux valgus (bunions), calcaneal spur, and scoliosis.
- Sports injuries including tennis elbow, ankle sprain, patellar dislocation, shoulder rotator cuff injury, and cervical sprains.
- Treatment of acute or chronic pain in the lower back due to inflammatory or radicular causes (known as sciatica), with surgical and non-surgical treatments.
- Diagnosis and treatment of bone tumors.
- Infections that affect the musculoskeletal system.
Orthopedic Diagnostics
For the comprehensive care of patients, the orthopedist performs a detailed clinical examination of the areas with pain, and if necessary, to rely on auxiliary studies to reach a definitive diagnosis. The main diagnostic tools used by our orthopedics are:
- X-rays and tomographies: Studies requested mainly to observe bone injuries or joint wear.
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI): Imaging to observe soft tissue injuries such as muscles, ligaments, tendons, articular cartilage, etc.
- Bone densitometry: A test to measure bone density and diagnose osteopenia or osteoporosis.
- Electromyography: A test detecting nerve injuries in the thoracic or pelvic limbs.
As a leading orthopedic practice in Mexico, our team of dedicated, board-certified doctors put our patients’ needs first by developing custom treatment plans that include conservative and surgical treatment options when nonsurgical treatments don’t relieve the pain. We are committed to relieving your symptoms and restoring your comfort, function, and mobility. We will be happy to serve you.
