When Dental Tourism Is Worth the Journey

November 23, 2023

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that dental costs rose by 23% between 1996 and 2015, with an additional jump of 5.4% just between October 2021 and October 2022. While some Americans have dental insurance to cover things like cavities and other necessary dental work, many do not. Plus, cosmetic dental work, such as dental implants, is almost never covered by insurance.

This can all add up to big expenditures on dental procedures. Single implants in the United States can cost as much as $5,000. However, just across the border in Mexico, that same single implant can cost as little as $800. But is the cost savings alone enough to make it worthwhile to travel to Tijuana for dental care? Let’s take a closer look.

What Is Dental Tourism?

Dental tourism is not a new concept and people have been traveling to other countries for generations to seek quality medical and dental care. In the United States, dental tourism sees patients traveling to Mexico, Thailand, Turkey, and many other locations for more cost-effective dental care. In most cases, you can expect to save anywhere between 40% and 75% of the costs you would routinely pay to a dentist in the United States. Because of these dramatic savings, dental tourism is quickly growing. At CORE Medical & Surgery center, you can expect the same quality care, if not better, than what you would receive at your local dentist. We will have a dedicated and specialized Dental Care floor in our new state-of-the-art hospital.

What You Can Expect with Dental Tourism

When considering dental tourism and receiving dental care in another country, you have to take additional costs into consideration. Aside from the costs for the chosen dental procedures, you need to consider where you will stay and how long you will want to stay. For example, you may need to stay for a few days to attend follow-up appointments. You also need to determine how you will travel in the country and whether the dental clinic offers the same safety protocols you would expect.

If you are considering a dental procedure in Mexico, the team at CORE Medical & Surgery Center is available to answer all of your questions. Just steps from the U.S.-Mexico border in Tijuana, we offer state-of-the-art medical and dental facilities and are ready to address all your dental needs. In addition to providing quality care, you will have everything you need in one place to enhance your experience and your stay in one of our stunning CORE suites.
